Healthy super-foods for your kids

Cozy up to a bowl of Chocolate Chip Cookie Oatmeal for breakfast. It is easier (and healthier) than you might imagine to turn your warm morning bowl of breakfast oats into a scrumptious chocolate chip cookie dough-flavored treat. A sprinkle of cinnamon, dose of vanilla, a splash of milk and a scoop of rich dark chocolate chips turns your ordinary oats into something worth craving.

We often think that adding chocolate chips to anything makes it dessert. And even a little unhealthy. But the truth is that a tiny spoonful of dairy-free, dark chocolate chips may actually be a good thing! First, they add plenty of flavor and fat to give ordinary oats a boost of yumminess. And second, they add antioxidants. Many studies have found that dark chocolate (dark chocolate chips in this case) is actually kind of good for us. Even though they remind us simply of cookies!

Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookie Oatmeal
Serves 1

Ingredients:
3/4 cup rolled oats
1 1/2 cup water
pinch of salt
pinch of cinnamon
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk + extra splash on top as desired
1 Tbsp dark chocolate chips
1 tsp butter(optional)
1 Tbsp chopped walnuts (optional)
1 banana sliced

Step One:
Place in bowl:
3/4 cup rolled oats
1 1/2 cup water
pinch of salt
pinch of cinnamon
1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Step Two:
Cook as directed until ready

Step Three:
Fold in other ingredients: nuts and butter.
Fold in 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk until mostly absorbed to soften oats. Top with chocolate chips —they will melt slightly from the warm oats. Yes the chilled soy milk your added will keep them from melting completely.
Serve warm. Top with an additional splash of milk and sliced banana.
